ASK MAISON BLONDIE

What exactly is Yaki Straight?

Chemically processed hair from a single Vietnamese donor to create a freshly pressed natural hair look that’s not exactly pin-straight extensions.

The White Tee has a subtle, lived-in texture designed to mimic the look of textured hair after a really good press. It’s straight, but not too straight: soft, full-bodied and slightly textured rather than ultra-silky or glassy. That little bit of imperfection is exactly what makes it look so believable and blend seamlessly with type 4 natural hair.

Why do you call it “The White Tee”?

Because it goes with everything.

Just like the perfect white tee, Yaki Straight is the kind of hair you can build almost any look around. Wear it straight and simple on Monday, add a bend on Friday, throw it into a ponytail when you’re pretending to be low-maintenance. It’s giving polished without looking overdone, which is why we consider it a hair-wardrobe essential.

Who is Yaki Straight best for?

The White Tee is especially good for anyone who loves the appearance of relaxed, pressed or silk-pressed textured hair.

If silky straight extensions tend to look a little too silky next to your leave-out, Yaki may give you the more believable blend you’ve been looking for. It also works beautifully in full protective installs when you simply want straight hair with more body and realism.

What’s the difference between Yaki Straight and regular Straight?

It’s all in the finish.

Our Straight is smoother, silkier and more naturally sleek. The White Tee has a fine texture running through the strands, giving it more body and the appearance of straightened natural hair.

Is Yaki Straight the same as Kinky Straight?

No. They’re sisters, not twins.

Kinky Straight typically recreates the fuller, more textured appearance of natural hair perfectly matching with 4C hair in its natural state. Yaki Straight sits one step sleeker: it resembles hair that has been relaxed, pressed or silk-pressed when flat ironed or type 4A-4B braid out hair in its natural state.

If you want blowout, go kinkier.
If you want press, go Yaki.

Does Yaki Straight tangle or shed more because it's textured?

Quality Yaki shouldn't be synonymous with tangling. But because the surface has more texture than silky straight hair, proper detangling and hydration matter.

Brush gently from the ends upward, avoid excessive product buildup and don't drown it in oils trying to make it behave like silky straight hair. Its texture is a feature, not something to correct.

Is raw hair really that different?

Yes. And once you experience it, it’s very hard to go back.
